It was confirmed in November, 11th, 2003 by the decision #9-10/XXIV of region council session. Per fess. First Azure; sunflower Or with heart Gules. Second Vert; two engrailed barrulets Azure, under it two Cossack sabers Argent in saltire points up. The shield is framed by ears of wheat Or, entwined by blue and yellow ribbon.
Sunflower represents a developed crop and symbolizes abundance and prosperity of the region. Azure barrulets mean numerous rivers flowing through the region, most of whom is Samara. Cossacks sabers symbolize of the glorious past of region that during the existence of Zaporizhzhya Sich was included in Samars'ka squadron with the center in Samara (modern Novomoskovs'k).
