PETROVS'KYI REGION
The Petrovs'kyi region has received the name from settlement Petrovo. The landscape is wavy plain with the typical forest-steppe vegetation, dismembered by beams, ravines and valleys of the river Ingulets'. By archeological expeditions it is revealed more than hundred barrows. They are not only tombs of the past epoch, and monuments of a man-made landscape of steppe of Ukraine. In ХVI-ХVII centuries the territory of modern region was included into lands of Zaporizhzhya Cossacks. Here appear cossacks villages.
To the most ancient settlements of region is Petrovo. On one of oral retellings it has arisen in the end of XVII century as farm of cossack Petryk - Petro Ivanovych Ivanenko. By the other legend, the settlement was found by Zaporizhzhya cossack Petro Globa in the XVIII century. Probably, occurrence is connected to activity of ataman Petro Kalnyshevs'kyi. In a counterbalance to actions of the imperial government, which beginning intensively to occupy these grounds by immigrants - Serbs, Petro Kalnyshevs'kyi, since 1767, began to move married cossacks from farms on these grounds. His village has been named Petrovo.
