It was confirmed in December, 17th, 2004 by the decision #173 of region council session. Gules; overturned chevron or, over it is solar circle with a rotor in the center or; below from dexter and sinister are formy crosses or. The board is enframed by a wreath from oak leaves and the guelder-rose clusters, intertwined by the tape azure, with two theatrical masks, and topped by a rising sun with beams-cones.
The shevron represents two basic rivers of this territory - Inhul and Sutokleja, crosses remind of the Cossack past. The sun is life symbol, rotor means a mining industry. Masks in a wreath mean that region is a cradle of the Ukrainian professional theater. The authors are V.E.Kryvenko, K.V.Shlahovyi. Image on site V.Napytkin.
